Celebrating Diversity,
Building Connection and
Empowering You.

At HMHK Psychology, our approach is grounded in a commitment to empowerment, collaboration, and a deep respect for the unique journey of each individual we support. Our practice is founded on the principles of strengths-based, person-centered, and client-led methodologies which are evidence based. We recognise that every person, regardless of age or background, possesses inherent strengths that can be harnessed for personal growth and resilience.

We work with individuals and families to help them learn to navigate and advocate for themselves and/or their child in the health system, education systems, workplaces and through NDIS.

We operate online via telehealth with the exception of assessments that need to be face-to-face. We provide accessible, affirming, and inclusive care to meet the diverse needs of our clients and we strive to make HMHK a safe environment where we can all show up as our whole selves.

Who we work with

  • We provide therapy for children, teenagers and young people that is tailored to their developmental needs. Common reasons children and young people attend the clinic include; anxiety, depression, social difficulties, difficulties regulating emotions.

  • Our family-focused support recognises the pivotal role of parents, caregivers and family networks. We work together toward shared understanding and improved communication, to create a nurturing environment and offer assistance in navigating and advocating within educational, medical and social systems. We also recognise and affirm chosen family as well as diverse family compositions and structures.

We provide support for family members who are wanting to know how to support their adult family member.

  • Welcoming trans and gender diverse children and adults is at the heart of our inclusive approach. We offer guidance to those exploring their gender identity and provide comprehensive support through social, medical, and legal affirmation. Recognising that everyone's path is unique, we celebrate and support each individual journey with authenticity and respect.

We believe that everyone’s gender journey is unique and we provide a space for clients to understand and explore their identity including navigating the distinctive experiences of detransition/ retransition.

  • We understand that while we are all neurodiverse, not everyone is neurodivergent. Whether self-diagnosed or formally diagnosed, we validate individual experiences, offering tailored support to understand and communicate unique needs. Our commitment is to foster self-acceptance, acknowledging the richness that neurodivergence brings to each person's journey.

  • We provide tailored support to children and adults with disabilities and their families. Our holistic approach extends beyond traditional therapy, guiding and supporting individuals through in navigating and thriving in education, work, and social systems. Our services

  • We use a diverse range of modalities to provide comprehensive evidence based mental health support, tailored to unique needs of the client. Therapeutic approaches including CBT, ACT, EFT and self-compassion therapy.

  • Our comprehensive assessments for both children and adults encompass a range of neurodevelopmental concerns, including Autism, ADHD, learning disorders, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia, as well as intellectual disability. We understand that assessments play a crucial role in identifying and addressing specific needs.

Recognising the importance of a holistic approach, our assessments draw from multiple sources of techniques and tools. While formal assessments align with the medical model of disability, we are committed to viewing the process through the social model of disability lens. Our assessments aim not only to provide diagnostic clarity but to be a therapeutic and helpful process for all involved.

We see formal assessments as valuable tools to access support and navigate existing systems. Our written reports and recommendations are not only individualised but also presented in an accessible manner. Beyond the assessment, we offer ongoing support for clients and their families, fostering understanding of the diagnosis, individual needs, and the evolving journey of identity.

  • We offer a compassionate approach to help clients and their families understand their diagnosis thoroughly. We develop skills and confidence to advocate for necessary accommodations at school, work or the home to ensure supportive and safe environments. Additionally, we acknowledge the intersectional nature of identity and facilitate deeper understanding of the nuanced relationship between diagnosis and other facets of one's identity. Our goal is to provide holistic support during this critical phase, helping individuals and their networks embrace and navigate their newfound understanding of themselves.

  • We provide training and consultancy services for schools, universities, allied health professionals, and other organisations. Topics include supporting trans and gender diverse communities, neuro-affirming practices, and self-advocacy. We also provide supervision for mental health professionals and consultancy services aimed at creating safe and affirming spaces for neurodivergent and queer individuals. Our goal is to equip professionals and organisations with the knowledge and skills necessary for genuinely supportive and inclusive environments.
